Wellness Wednesday: How and Why to Use Wild Orange Essential Oil

I'm not going to lie, Wild Orange CPTG essential oil from doTERRA is one of my favourite essential oils, and not just because it smells like summer sunshine in a bottle.

Wild orange has so many incredible uses, both for your physical and mental wellness; it can uplift your mood when you're feeling down, it can help digestion when you're feeling bloated, it adds amazing bright flavours to food and it can also make some amazing DIY cleaners for your home. Read on for more!

Used on it's own in a diffuser, on a piece of essential oil jewellery, or even smelled straight from the bottle, the fresh burst of citrus helps to remind your brain of happy, warm summer nights, and eating juicy sweet oranges as a child, uplifting your mood. This is caused by the high levels of mood-boosting monoterpenes that naturally occur in the rinds of the orange, which this fragrant essential oil is made from. You can also blend this oil with others (see the images below) to create different scent profiles to enhance mood even further - you can create a moodscape to help you feel happy, warm and collected, whenever you need! What are your favourite blends to use? What would you like to try?
Another great way I love to use Wild Orange essential oil is in my water. Always remember that doTERRA essential oils are pure and very strong, so only a drop is needed to flavour your food or water! Also remember that not all essential oil brands are created equal - doTERRA Wild Orange essential oil is safe and even recommended for internal usage, but other companies are not safe. Additionally, only use essential oils in glass or stainless steel drinking containers, never plastic. Oils can leach into the plastic, and we shouldn't really be using plastic anyway.

I love adding a drop each of Wild Orange, Grapefruit and Lemon essential oils to my 1 litre glass jar and sipping from it throughout the day (refilling it as needed of course!). It keeps me hydrated, tastes delicious, and helps with digestion, preventing bloating and indigestion. Have you ever tried it in your water?

Another tip to try, is to add a drop or two of Wild Orange essential oil to your food! Try adding it to smoothies, iced teas, freezer pops (it tastes like a creamsicle!!), shortbread, and so many other recipes where a bright addition of citrus is welcomed. Again, just a drop or two is usually all that is needed to give a lovely flavour. This oil is also Kosher certified!

Have you ever tried cleaning with your essential oils? You can try adding 10 drops to a cleaning solution of water and vinegar in a spray bottle to clean surfaces (check that vinegar is ok for your selected surface before using, and test on a small area to be sure it's ok), or, my personal favourite, adding a few drops to a vacuum filter to invite the cheery aroma into your home as you clean! The active ingredient in citrus oils like Wild Orange is Limonene. It is incredibly effective at cutting grease and cleaning surfaces - plus it smells great.
